Overview
Dermal fillers are injectable gels, often made from hyaluronic acid, used to restore lost facial volume, smooth static wrinkles, and enhance facial contours. Unlike wrinkle relaxers, fillers address lines that are present even when your face is at rest — providing an immediate and natural-looking result.
-
Recovery
There is typically no downtime, allowing you to return to your daily life immediately. Common side effects include temporary swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection sites, which usually resolve within a few days.
-
Results
The plumping and smoothing effects are visible immediately after your treatment. The longevity of results varies depending on the type of filler and the treated area, with effects typically lasting from six months to over a year.

The Art and Science of Facial Volume Restoration
The Difference Between Fillers and Wrinkle Relaxers
A common question is, “What’s the difference between fillers and wrinkle relaxers?” While both are injectables, they work in fundamentally different ways. Wrinkle relaxers target the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles. Dermal fillers physically add volume to fill in static wrinkles or hollow areas. For a comprehensive rejuvenation, many patients choose to combine both treatments to address a wide range of concerns, from fine lines to volume loss.
The Art and Science of Facial Volume Restoration
Dermal filler injections are a blend of medical science and artistic vision. Our surgeons have a deep understanding of facial anatomy and aesthetics, allowing them to precisely place the filler to achieve a harmonious and natural-looking result. We use a variety of trusted, FDA-approved products — including Juvéderm — primarily composed of hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in your body that draws moisture to the area for a plump, healthy appearance.
Surgeon's Notes
Less is more, and timing matters
The biggest filler mistake I see — and reverse — is overcorrection. Patients who chase volume year after year eventually look not-quite-right, even when each individual treatment was technically well-executed. My rule is conservative initial volume, with the goal of looking like a well-rested version of yourself, not a different version. The second mistake is filler-only when the underlying issue is skin or muscle: a patient with significant skin laxity or descended cheek pads will get a better result from a facelift than from more cheek filler. Part of my job is to tell you when fillers aren't the right answer anymore.
