A common question is, “Does it hurt?” While sensations vary from person to person, most patients describe a brief stinging feeling as the laser energy is delivered. The sensation typically subsides quickly. No anesthesia is required, but a topical numbing cream can be applied beforehand for your comfort. Facial spider veins respond beautifully to the Excel V+ — most patients see real improvement after one session. Leg veins are different. They sit deeper, they're under more pressure from gravity, and they often have an underlying venous insufficiency that the laser alone can't address. When patients come in for leg vein treatment, I'm honest about what we can and can't do: we can clear the visible cosmetic veins, but we can't stop new ones from forming if the underlying circulation issues aren't being managed. For patients with extensive leg veins, I sometimes recommend a vascular consult first.
