Pigmentation Treatment at a Glance
-
Overview
Our pigmentation treatments use advanced laser technologies — PICO Genesis™ and Limelight® — to precisely target unwanted discoloration. These non-invasive procedures break down pigmented cells, which are then naturally cleared by your body, revealing a brighter and more even skin tone.
-
Recovery
Minimal to no downtime. After treatment, brown spots will darken and then flake off over the course of about a week. You may experience temporary redness, but you can apply sunscreen, wear makeup, and resume normal activities immediately.
-
Results
You will begin to see significant improvement in skin tone and clarity as the treated spots fade. While some results are visible after just one session, a series of treatments is often recommended for the most comprehensive and long-lasting outcomes.

How Our Lasers Target Pigmentation
How Our Lasers Target Pigmentation
Pigmentation is caused by an overproduction of melanin in your skin. Our laser treatments — PICO Genesis™ and Limelight® — use different wavelengths of light to deliver energy that is selectively absorbed by this excess melanin. The energy shatters the pigment into tiny particles, which are then naturally cleared by your body’s immune system. This allows us to treat the discoloration without harming the healthy skin around it.
A Combined Approach for Optimal Results
For some of the most challenging forms of pigmentation — particularly melasma — a single treatment is not enough. Our approach is to create a comprehensive plan that may combine a series of laser treatments with a professional, physician-grade skincare regimen. Products containing ingredients like hydroquinone help inhibit melanin production, which is a key part of maintaining results and preventing future discoloration.
Surgeon's Notes
Melasma is the hardest pigmentation to treat — here's why
Sun spots and age spots respond beautifully — usually a single PICO Genesis or Limelight session is enough. Melasma is the patient I'm most careful with. Melasma is hormonal, not just sun-driven, which means it can return even after a perfect clearance. I'll never treat melasma with laser alone — we pair the laser with hydroquinone, strict sun protection, and a maintenance schedule. Patients who think of melasma as a one-time fix get frustrated. Patients who think of it as a managed condition see real, durable results. I always have that honest conversation before we start.
